Five advantages of steel structures over reinforced concrete

Speed, seismic performance and predictable cost put steel ahead. Here is what we have learned on site.

Because steel is fabricated in the shop and assembled on site, it shortens construction time considerably compared with reinforced concrete. With no formwork or curing to wait for, weather dependency drops as well.

In seismic regions the ductile behaviour of steel is a major advantage. The structure dissipates energy through inelastic deformation, reducing the risk of sudden brittle failure.

On cost, the key difference is predictability. Steel tonnage can be calculated precisely at design stage, so budget deviation stays far more limited than with concrete.
